Young Welsh Singer of the Year 2011

Kathryn McAdam is the 2011 Young Welsh Singer of the Year. The Final of the Competition was held at a concert with the Morriston Orpheus Choir on Sunday 18 September at Margam Orangery, Port Talbot and Kathryn was the unanimous choice of the Adjudicators, Rebecca Evans, Julian Smith and Dr. Richard Elfyn Jones.

In thanking all connected with the Competition Kathryn said

“ I am delighted and honoured to have won this wonderful prize.  For a young singer, the opportunity to sing for such a prestigious panel of judges as well as a warm and encouraging audience is totally invaluable. I will cherish this experience for many years to come.”

The 18th century Orangery is the dramatic and magnificent centrepiece to the lovely formal gardens forming over 1,000 acres of glorious parkland. The Orangery was restored in 1977 and opened by HM The Queen during her Silver Jubilee Year

Kathryn McAdam, (Mezzo-soprano) was born in Farnborough
and graduated from the University of Sheffield with a 1st class honours degree in music in 2006. She commenced her Masters in Vocal Studies in 2008 at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD), London, and is now in her final year of the prestigious opera course. Kathryn's mother is Welsh.

Llio Evans, (Soprano) was born in Llanfairpwll, Anglesey.  She recently received her MA in Music performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD), Cardiff

 

Eirlys Myfanwy Davies, (Mezzo-soprano) was born in Llanelli and recently graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD), Cardiff.   She is continuing her studies with a Master in Performance degree at the Royal Academy of Music, London

 

Joshua Mills, (Tenor) was born in Neath and is a final year undergraduate at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London
