It's a Royal Week for the Orpheus

The Orpheus has been involved in a number of Royal events over the years. However it’s not often, if at all, that it has been involved in two Royal events within a little over 48 hours !

On Wednesday 3 July the Choir will be joining with other Morriston Choirs, Morriston Ladies, Morriston RFC, Tabernacle and Twrw Tawe, to welcome HRH The Prince of Wales to Tabernacle Chapel in Morriston as part of Swansea’s celebration of 50 years as a City. It was during the, recently invested, Prince of Wales’ visit to Swansea on 3 July 1969 that City status was granted to the then town. During his visit the Prince attended a Cymanfa Ganu at Tabernacle Chapel at which the Orpheus was one of the choirs taking part.

Less than 24 hours later the Choir will be on its way to Dover to prepare for another Royal occasion on Friday 5 July. The Choir, along with the Band of the Royal Marines, will be providing the entertainment for guests of Saga Holidays at the naming ceremony of its brand new cruise ship, Spirit of Discovery. HRH The Duchess of Cornwall accompanied her husband the Prince of Wales when he visited Swansea and on Friday she will be in Dover to name Saga’s new cruise ship. The Duchess and Saga share a common link in their support for The Silver Line, a charity founded by TV presenter Dame Esther Rantzen. The Silver Line is the only free confidential helpline providing information, friendship and advice to older people, open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. HRH is the patron of the charity and The Silver Line is Saga’s first national charity partner.
