Morriston Orpheus Choir Supporters’ Association

Who We Are

The Association was formed in 1974 with the twin aims of supporting Morriston Orpheus Choir (MOC) in all its endeavours and also of supporting and developing young Welsh singers.

MOCSA raises money for these purposes via a modest annual subscription which is currently set at £12 for a one person membership or £22 for a double membership.

How We Support the Morriston Orpheus Choir

Over recent years, MOCSA purchased embroidered white shirts for the Choir’s tours to France and Belgium. It hired musical instruments from time to time as needed and has paid for solo singers to perform with the Choir at some prestigious venues in the UK and Europe.

Last year MOCSA used a £1,000 legacy from the will of a former Chairman Huw Madoc-Jones to purchase a new keyboard for the Choir.

How We Support Our Members

MOCSA regularly funds and organises social events for both Choir and its members locally.

MOCSA produces and delivers newsletters across the year. The newsletters provide news about the Choir, its events and activities. The newsletters are distributed via email or as printed copies by post.

How We Support And Develop Young Welsh Singers

Support of Young Welsh Singers is achieved predominantly through our annual Young Welsh Singer of the Year competition.

Whenever possible, winners are given the opportunity of staging with the Morriston Orpheus Choir. The 2018 winner Kieron-Connor Valentine sang with the Choir in June 2019 and Chloe Angharad Morgan, the 2017 winner, was the guest soloist with the Choir when they visited Austria and Poland in April 2018.

Some have recorded with the Choir and a number have accompanied the Choir on earlier overseas concert tours, appearing in such prestigious venues as the Roy Thomson Hall, Toronto, and the Sydney Opera House.
