Dean Powell, concert compère with Musical Director Joy Amman Davies
Dean Powell's letter to the Orpheus
Dean was the compère for the concert at the BFM Concert Hall in Switzerland. We print, with his permission, his letter addressed to to Evan Roberts, Engagement Secretary and members of the Orpheus Management Committee.
"May I take this opportunity to thank everyone for the kind invitation to join you on your exciting trip to Geneva, Switzerland.
I must admit that I was overjoyed to receive the initial invitation, but nothing prepared me for the experience of actually undertaking the trip. On the one hand the audience at the BFM Building was superb and it was obvious from the first bars of Harlech that the Choir had won themselves a thousand new fans in the auditorium.
The Choir, Joy, Jo, Mike, Les, Catrin and Gary gave a superb performance which was reflected in the wealth of applause from a very appreciative audience, many of whom had never experienced the thrill of hearing a Welsh male choir liuve on stage. I do hope that Kathleen Bremont and all at ECLAT benefited considerably from the concert.
Similarly, the warm welcome for Dr. Lyn Evans and First Minister Rhodri Morgan at CERN Laboratories was appreciated by all.
However, I was particularly touched by the warm reception not necessarily from the audiences ( who I hope enjoyed my aged catalogue of frivolous jokes and stories!) but from the choristers themselves. I was overwhelmed with the warmth of their welcome, friendliness and good humour afforded to a so-called rival from over the Rhigos!
Therefore, may I simply re-iterate my thanks to each and every one of you at Morriston Orpheus for an unforgettable weekend amongst a wealth of wonderful characters and new-found friends. I do hope I have the opportunity of spending time with you again in the future
